I’m the artist and founder behind Flourish & Bloom Designs, creating from my rural home in North Queensland, Australia.

I create nature-inspired surface pattern collections for fabric, stationery, gifting, and home décor, rich in memory, story, and timeless beauty.

Inspired by quiet bushland walks and the flowers in my garden, my work layers botanical motifs, soft textures, and thoughtful colour palettes to bring calm, connection, and beauty to everyday life.

Hi, I’m Barbara Ann

I discovered surface pattern design later in life and found a love of creating patterns that I hadn’t known was waiting for me.

While continuing to work alongside the everyday rhythms of family life, I began finding small pockets of time to learn, draw, and slowly build collections of my own.

There was something about bringing together my love of drawing, nature, colour and pattern that felt like finding a place I had been looking for without quite knowing it.

What began in those small moments gradually grew into Flourish & Bloom Designs. Today, my love of nature, memory, and story comes together through my designs.

How I found my way here

Inspiration often begins quietly for me. On a bush walk, in a fallen leaf or flower, a photograph, an old piece of handwriting, or a memory that keeps returning.

I gather things along the way. Leaves, grasses, and flowers to press or draw. Photographs of changing colours and textures. Treasured pieces kept over time. Each becomes part of a collection of memories and ideas.

From there, I begin to draw, paint, and explore, bringing together hand-drawn motifs, colour and softly layered textures. Story leads the way, always.

I find myself drawn back to nature, memory, and the quiet beauty found in the everyday.

Gathered along the way

My collections often begin with something that stays with me. A story, memory or thought that keeps returning, or something in nature that makes me look a little closer.

I love this part of the process. Gathering ideas, building the story, sketching and exploring colour and pattern. Slowly getting to know the collection as it begins to take shape.

As the collection grows, I return to the story often, allowing it to guide the designs and the way they come together.

I create nature-inspired surface pattern collections for fabric, stationery, gifting and homewares, designed with licensing and collaboration in mind.

My work has an organic, timeless feel, created to bring beauty and a sense of connection to the everyday.

Each collection brings together layered details, gentle textures and a sense of story.
